Explain – Direct – Honour – Connect. For me, these are things that great business team leaders do.
Firstly, I need to explain that I am Canadian – you can tell by my “u” in “honour”. So, I believe it’s only my right to observe and not take a side or hold an opinion on politics in America. And on President Trump’s behaviour. Again another “u”.
Though I am finding that observation kicks up for me new language for my beliefs around culture, values and qualities – and that my language is often the opposite of what I am observing.
I know, too long a setup before posting something that risks breaking my own rule…
This morning I flicked on CNN over breakfast and listened to a segment on New Day with Alyson Camerota where a panel was discussing President Trumps’ decision to cancel the Superbowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles team visit to the White House.
Joining in mid discussion I heard political advisor John Avlon say that Trump too often uses as strategies behaviours that Distract, Deflect or Discredit. Anchor John Berman added to this list – Divide.
I wondered… what are the opposites that I think are behaviours business team leaders should try to emulate when engaging with their teams. I came up with Explain, Direct, Honour and Connect.
